The Department of Chemistry was started in our institution in the academic year 1960-61 by offering B.Sc. Degree programme. It has emerged as a Post Graduate Department by introducing M.Sc., Chemistry programme in the academic year 2011-12 due to the great demand from the student aspirants. M.Phil course was started in the academic year 2012-2013 and PhD programme was started in the academic year 2013-2014. On account of Puratchi Thalaivar M.G.R Centenary Celebrations a new block for chemistry has been constructed in the academic year 2018-2019 and inaugurated by our Honourable Chief minister on 24.06.2019.This new block consists of two P.G Laboratory, one staff room, one Department library, five class rooms and rest room facilities. Two laboratories have been already functioning in the old building for U.G Students. Experienced, well qualified and dedicated members of staff in the department make remarkable contributions for the growth and success of the department. Our P.G. students secured university ranks in the Alagappa University semester examinations. Three part-time Ph.D. students and five M.Phil Scholars are pursuing their research work in the department.
