Established in 1985 - 86, the department of commerce has been offering bachelor degree B.Com and Master degree M.Com, M.Phil and Ph.D Programmes in commerce

The B.Com degree was introduced in 1985 - 86 with a sanctioned strength of 50. The second shift B.Com course is offered from 2007-08 onwards

Since 2003 -04 onwards the department offered M.Com degree with a sanctioned strength of 20. The M.Phil and Ph.D programme were introduced from 2013 - 14 onwards. The department consists of 6 staff member on regular basis with qualification of Ph.D degree and 5 guest lectures on ad-hoc position with Ph.D Qualification.

The students were selected in police and army service and TNPSC exams. The alumni of the department have been well placed in various capacities as on officers and business men. The department is supplied with 514 books for the benefit of student and teachers.
